VENO TV: UK Court Clears Former Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke of Corruption Charges Date: 17-06-26
Former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been found not guilty on all six bribery charges brought against her in a London court.
The verdict was delivered on Wednesday after a lengthy trial at Southwark Crown Court, where prosecutors alleged that she received luxury benefits from oil and gas industry figures in exchange for influencing the award of lucrative contracts in Nigeria. Alison-Madueke consistently denied the allegations, insisting that she neither solicited nor accepted bribes and had no direct influence over the contract-awarding process.
After more than 46 hours of jury deliberations, the jury returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all six counts against the former minister. Two other defendants in the case, oil executive Olatimbo Ayinde and Alison-Madueke's brother, Doye Agama, were also acquitted of related charges.
The judgment brings to an end more than a decade of investigations and legal scrutiny involving the former minister, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015 and also served as President of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Speaking after the verdict, her legal team said the acquittal allows her to resume her private and public life with her reputation restored.
