Fresh controversy has erupted within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following allegations that party tickets for the State House of Assembly have been shared along factional lines between supporters of former Governor George Akume and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Party insiders claim that one camp secured about 24 tickets, while the other received 12, a development that has sparked fresh complaints from aggrieved members.
Some stakeholders alleged that the distribution process did not reflect fairness or existing agreements within the party. They argued that several serving lawmakers and influential party members who expected automatic consideration were denied tickets, while others regarded as the legitimate winners of the party process were eventually recognised.
The controversy has also affected some prominent APC figures. Supporters of Hon. Agada alleged that he was denied the party ticket because of his perceived loyalty to former state APC Chairman Austin Agada, a known ally of Senator George Akume.
Critics further argued that the absence of effective governance in some parts of the state could weaken the APC's electoral chances if the internal crisis is not resolved before the elections.
Some party members also expressed disappointment with Governor Hyacinth Alia's leadership, alleging that expectations placed on his administration by critical stakeholders have not been fully met.
However, loyalists of the governor maintain that the ticket allocation followed due process and insist that those who emerged are the legitimate candidates of the party.
Political observers warn that unless the APC leadership succeeds in reconciling the aggrieved factions, the internal divisions could affect the party's performance in future elections in Benue State.
