Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has departed Nigeria for a short vacation in Europe, while directing an immediate investigation into the emerging kingship dispute in Koka, Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The governor, who is expected to undergo medical checks as part of the vacation, is heading to the United Kingdom and other destinations to be announced later.
Speaking before his departure from Lagos, Governor Adeleke said:
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State.”
Before leaving the country, the governor directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another traditional ruler for Koka-Ilase, a development that has allegedly resulted in two kings laying claim to the same community.
The ministry was instructed to review the situation and ensure that due process is followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and established traditions.
According to the governor:
“I read of another king appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight.”
Governor Adeleke also appealed to all stakeholders and residents of the affected community to remain peaceful while the government investigates the matter.
“I urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations, and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” he stated.
