VENO TV: CRIMEWATCH ALLEGED VISA FRAUD: TMT TRAVELS CEO IN POLICE NET AS OVER 200 COMPLAINANTS STORM STATION Owerri businessman previously drew attention over lavish birthday party organised for his dog
Date: 01-09-26

The story surrounding Owerri-based businessman and Chief Executive Officer of TMT Travels and Tours Limited, Ifeanyi Onukwubiri, popularly associated with TMT, has taken another dramatic turn following his reported arrest over allegations of visa-related fraud.

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), said Onukwubiri was arrested in Owerri following a petition by the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative and subsequently taken to Abuja by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Special Tactical Squad.

The development attracted further attention on Monday, August 31, 2026, when VDM assembled more than 200 people claiming to be affected clients of TMT Travels and led them to the police station to submit statements, receipts and other documents relating to their transactions with the company.

According to the complainants, millions of naira were allegedly paid for visa and overseas travel arrangements involving destinations including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan and parts of Europe.

Some of the complainants also alleged that their international passports remained in the custody of the travel company after the promised travel arrangements failed to materialise.

Earlier investigations into the company were already underway before the latest development. In November 2025, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that it was investigating allegations of obtaining money under false pretence in connection with visa processing and announced that nine Nigerian passports had been recovered during the investigation.

Onukwubiri was subsequently arraigned before a magistrate court in Owerri in December 2025 and granted bail. The latest reported arrest therefore marks another chapter in a controversy that has followed the travel company for months.

In February 2026, another group of complainants publicly alleged that about ?500 million was involved in their collective transactions with TMT Travels, although the figure remained an allegation by the complainants. More recently, VDM said receipts so far submitted to his organisation represented transactions exceeding ?200 million.

The businessman had also attracted social-media attention for his flamboyant lifestyle, including a lavish birthday celebration reportedly organised for his dog, Mylo, footage of which resurfaced online following the latest controversy.

However, it is important to stress that the allegations against Onukwubiri and TMT Travels remain allegations unless and until proved before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The company had previously disputed some accusations circulating online, while Onukwubiri said dissatisfied customers could request refunds and that efforts would be made to resolve outstanding issues.

For Nigerians desperate to relocate abroad, the developing case is another reminder to exercise extreme caution when dealing with travel agents.

A travel consultant may assist with documentation and applications, but no travel agency can guarantee the issuance of a United States, United Kingdom, Canadian or other foreign visa. Final decisions remain with the relevant embassy, consulate or immigration authority.

With the matter now receiving renewed police attention under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, the complainants will be hoping that the investigation establishes the facts and ensures that justice is served.

VENO TV will continue to monitor developments.
