The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Dr. Gift O. Worlu, has renewed his call for peace and political stability in the state, urging Governor Siminialayi Fubara to continue to toe the path of dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
Worlu made the appeal while addressing stakeholders during the commissioning of the rehabilitated runway at the 115 Special Operations Group, Nigerian Air Force Base, Port Harcourt.
According to the council chairman, Rivers State stands to gain more from peace, cooperation and mutual understanding than from prolonged political confrontation.
He urged the governor to continue playing the role of a peacemaker and to embrace every genuine opportunity capable of bringing political leaders and stakeholders together in the overall interest of Rivers people.
Worlu stressed that development thrives best in an atmosphere of peace, noting that political differences should not be allowed to slow down the progress of the state.
The Obio/Akpor council boss also drew attention to his cordial approach towards the state government, recalling occasions when he publicly expressed appreciation to Governor Fubara during the commissioning of projects.
He maintained that irrespective of political differences, leaders must acknowledge developmental efforts that benefit the people.
His latest intervention comes as Governor Fubara continues the commissioning of projects across Rivers State.
At the Air Force Base ceremony, Fubara pledged continued collaboration between the Rivers State Government and security agencies, describing security and stability as essential ingredients for economic growth and sustainable development.
For Worlu, however, the message remains clear: Rivers State needs peace, reconciliation and cooperation among its political leaders for development to flourish.
