VENO tv: FROM THE PULPIT Oju Ti Owo: Money Has Limits, Put Your Trust in God — Bishop Sanya Ojo

The Leader of Veno Prayer Centre, Bishop Dr. Sanya Ojo, has urged Christians not to place absolute confidence in wealth, declaring that there are critical moments in human life when money, influence and material possessions cannot provide the desired answer.

Speaking during the Critical Hour of Power, Prayers and Encouragement, the cleric delivered a message titled “Oju Ti Owo (Shame on Money)”, drawing attention to the limitations of material wealth in the face of sickness, death and other realities of life.

The message was inspired by recent discussions surrounding the illness and reported death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, and the financial assistance reportedly mobilised for his medical care.
Bishop Ojo stressed that while financial resources are important for obtaining medical treatment and meeting other human needs, money should never be regarded as having the power of God.

“Money can pay hospital bills and provide access to medical specialists, but money cannot guarantee life,” he said.

Taking his biblical reference from Psalm 49:6–9, the cleric warned against trusting in riches as though wealth could redeem human life.
He also cited Proverbs 11:4, which teaches that riches have their limitations, and Mark 8:36, where Jesus Christ asks what a person would profit by gaining the whole world but losing his soul.

Help People Before It Is Too Late

Another major lesson of the sermon was the importance of timely assistance.
According to Bishop Ojo, society must develop a stronger culture of responding quickly when people are sick, hungry or facing emergencies rather than waiting until their condition becomes desperate.
Quoting Proverbs 3:27–28, he urged people who have the capacity to help others not to unnecessarily delay their intervention.

He explained that the expression “Oju Ti Owo” should serve as a reminder that money arriving after an opportunity has passed may no longer achieve what it could have accomplished earlier.

The cleric therefore prayed that people's helpers, resources and medical interventions would not arrive too late.

Take Care of Your Health
Bishop Ojo equally advised Nigerians not to sacrifice their health entirely in the pursuit of money.

He observed that some people spend years exhausting themselves in search of wealth only to eventually spend much of what they have accumulated trying to restore their health.

He encouraged people to seek appropriate medical attention when necessary while continuing to pray and trust God.
According to him, faith and responsible medical care should complement rather than oppose each other.

Money Must Remain a Servant
Drawing from Christ's parable of the rich man in Luke 12:15–21, Bishop Ojo said material possessions should remain servants rather than becoming masters over people's lives.

He maintained that poverty is not holiness and possessing wealth is not sinful, noting that financial resources are necessary to support families, assist the needy and advance worthwhile causes.

However, he warned that wealth must never take the place of God.
“Your bank balance cannot negotiate with eternity. Your properties cannot purchase another day when earthly life comes to an end,” he declared.

The cleric concluded by praying for long life, sound health, divine protection, wisdom and timely helpers for participants in the programme.
He also urged Christians to use whatever God has placed in their hands to positively affect others while they still have the opportunity.
