VENO TV CRIMEWATCH BEWARE! FAMILY OF THREE ESCAPES ALLEGED POISONING.Neighbour Accused of Pouring Insecticide Into Soup “The Devil Pushed Me,” Suspect Allegedly Tells Police Date: 20-08-26
By Kayode Adoide
A family of three reportedly escaped what could have become a tragedy after a neighbour allegedly poured insecticide into a pot of soup being prepared for the family in the Ajegunle area of Apapa, Lagos.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred at Baale Aiyetoro Street when a woman who was preparing soup briefly left the cooking area to buy salt.
On returning, she reportedly noticed that something was wrong. The usual aroma of the soup had changed, and she allegedly detected the offensive smell of an insecticide.
Alarmed by the discovery, the woman immediately raised an alarm, attracting the attention of people around the premises.
A neighbour identified as Gordon Daniel, who was reportedly the only other tenant around at the material time, became a suspect in the incident and was subsequently arrested.
Daniel was alleged to have admitted pouring insecticide into the soup, claiming that he wanted to “deal with” the family following an earlier disagreement with the husband.
According to the account, the suspect allegedly told police:
“The devil pushed me to do it. I doused the soup with Sniper insecticide so as to deal with the family.”
He reportedly claimed that his action followed a previous disagreement over an electricity bill during which the husband allegedly insulted him and called him a poor man.
Daniel was also quoted as expressing regret over his alleged action.
The incident could have ended differently had the woman failed to notice the unusual smell before serving the food to members of her family.
A WARNING TO FAMILIES
The reported incident serves as a warning about how seemingly minor disagreements between neighbours can escalate into dangerous acts of retaliation.
People should remain vigilant about food and other consumable items left unattended, particularly in shared residential environments. Disputes involving electricity bills, money, property or personal insults should be resolved peacefully rather than through violence or revenge.
However, the allegations against the suspect remain subject to police investigation and the judicial process. Only a competent court can determine his guilt and any appropriate punishment.

If the allegation is proved beyond reasonable doubt in court, what punishment do you think would be appropriate for someone who deliberately puts a poisonous substance into food intended for an entire family?
