VENO tv POLITICS OSUN ELECTION FALLOUT: “I ALMOST COLLAPSED WHEN I SAW THE SHENANIGANS” — DELE MOMODU
Date: 18-08-26

By Kayode Adoide

ADC chieftain and publisher of Ovation International, Chief Dele Momodu, has spoken about the just-concluded Osun governorship election, saying he was deeply disturbed by some of the incidents he witnessed and reports he received during the exercise.

According to Momodu, he “almost collapsed” when he saw what he described as the “shenanigans” surrounding the election.
He alleged that there were attempts to deploy “federal might” against the Accord Party and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke, who was seeking re-election.

Momodu also expressed concern over inflammatory political statements allegedly made in the build-up to the election, including remarks attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Wole Oke. He maintained that such rhetoric was not healthy for a peaceful democratic contest.

Before the election, Momodu had predicted victory for Adeleke, arguing that the governor's performance in office would influence voters more than monetary inducements.
According to him, the outcome demonstrated that many Osun voters were prepared to vote on the basis of performance rather than what he described as the “vote-for-money syndrome.”
Momodu further alleged that on election day, police officers stormed some polling units, removed election materials and ballot boxes and used tear gas on voters despite there being no crisis at the affected locations.

He also criticised the large number of governors who travelled to Osun during the election period, describing some of their comments about their fellow governor as unprecedented.

“I know some governors who are very close to Senator Ademola Adeleke who also came to victimise him,” Momodu alleged.
He said the election result represented a clear statement by the people of Osun about the direction in which they wanted the state to go.

ADELEKE'S SUPPORT FOR TINUBU

Addressing questions surrounding Adeleke's support for President Bola Tinubu, Momodu said the governor had the right to make his own political choices but argued that this should not automatically be interpreted as meaning his supporters would vote for the APC.

He described Osun voters as politically disciplined and referred to previous elections in which voters made choices that did not necessarily follow expected party or political alignments.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general election, Momodu predicted that Nigerians would increasingly resist political intimidation and vote according to their convictions.

“In 2027, all oppressors will fade away and the wishes of the people shall prevail,” he said.
