Osun State First Lady, Ngozi Adeleke, has defended her husband, Governor Ademola Adeleke, over his popular “Dancing Governor” reputation, saying dancing has always been part of his personality and predates his political career.
Speaking in an interview with a national newspaper, the First Lady said she has never been embarrassed by the nickname, explaining that she knew her husband as a passionate dancer long before he became a prominent political figure.
“I feel good. My husband did not start dancing today; I got to meet him when he schooled in the US. They called him Jackson because of his dancing skills,” she said.
According to her, Adeleke’s love for dancing was already well known when they met. She recalled their traditional marriage ceremony, where her husband reportedly danced extensively as the celebration turned into what she described as a carnival.
She said veteran musician Sir Shina Peters performed at the ceremony, making the occasion particularly memorable for members of her community.
“I don’t think my village people have ever seen that type of wedding up till today. They still talk about it,” she said.
The First Lady also stressed that she did not marry her husband as a politician. According to her, when they met, it was Adeleke’s elder brother who was active in politics.
Her account, therefore, challenges suggestions that Governor Adeleke's dancing style was deliberately developed as a political image or campaign strategy.
Giving further insight into their private life, Ngozi described her husband as a cheerful person who is rarely in a low mood.
She said whenever he is not dancing, he is likely to be singing or praising God, adding that he was once a choir member and could both sing and play the drums.
In a lighter moment, the First Lady admitted that despite being surrounded by a dancing family, she is the one person in the household who cannot dance.
“With him, no dull moment,” she said.
