VENO tv | POLITICS OSUN ELECTION: ERO-ARIKE IN THE EYE OF THE STORM As controversy trails viral rice-distribution video ahead of August 15 governorship poll
Date: 14-08-26

By Kayode Adoide

Alhaja Falilat Yusuf, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) mobiliser in Osun State popularly known as Ero-Arike, has found herself at the centre of political controversy ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
A viral video circulating on social media purportedly showed Ero-Arike making controversial remarks, including alleged curses, while distributing branded bags of rice. The incident has generated widespread reactions and criticism, with political opponents arguing that the controversy could negatively affect the image of the APC and its governorship candidate.

The development has also reopened the debate over the use of food, money and other material incentives during election campaigns.
Some critics have gone as far as raining curses on Ero-Arike, while a Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Psalm Ojo, was also reported to have made strong pronouncements against her. VENO tv does not endorse curses or threats against any individual or family and believes political disagreements should remain peaceful and issue-based.
The bigger question, however, goes beyond Ero-Arike.
Should the hardship facing ordinary citizens be exploited for electoral advantage?

A bag of rice or a cash gift cannot substitute for four years of responsible government. Voters should examine candidates on their records, competence, programmes and agenda for the people rather than surrender their conscience because of temporary material benefits.
Osun voters must remember that the ballot is their voice. Once an election is over, the consequences of their choice may remain for years.

The controversy surrounding Ero-Arike also raises another political question: if the APC candidate loses the August 15 election, what becomes of Ero-Arike and the political structures and projects associated with her?
Whatever the outcome, no election should become a battle of curses, threats or personal destruction. Politicians and their supporters come and go, but families and communities remain.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Is a bag of rice worth your conscience?
Osun electorates should vote according to performance, credibility and the programmes they believe will improve their lives.
Let August 15 be a contest of ideas and ballots—not curses, intimidation or violence.
