The Nigerian music industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Fuji musician Alhaji Abdul Azeez Oladeji, popularly known as Love Azeez, who reportedly passed away at the age of 81 in Agege, Lagos.
Widely regarded as one of the oldest and most respected figures in the Fuji music industry, Love Azeez was celebrated for his immense contribution to the growth and preservation of Fuji music in Nigeria. His death marks the end of an era for members of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria and lovers of traditional Yoruba music.
The late musician was renowned not only for his performances but also for his deep knowledge of the history, roots, and evolution of Fuji music. Many younger artistes and researchers often consulted him for insights into the genre's development over several decades.
Love Azeez celebrated his 80th birthday in April 2025, a milestone that was widely applauded by colleagues, family members, and admirers. Throughout his career, he remained a respected cultural ambassador and a custodian of Yoruba musical heritage.
Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts who described him as a humble mentor, a gifted performer, and a living archive of Fuji music history.
His passing leaves a significant vacuum in Nigeria's traditional music landscape, but his legacy and contributions to Fuji music will continue to inspire generations to come.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
