The controversy surrounding the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties has taken a new twist as the Court of Appeal reportedly suspended the execution of the judgment delivered by Justice Lifu.
The appellate court described the situation as the highest form of judicial impertinence, stating that Justice Lifu allegedly brazenly disregarded its earlier order by proceeding with actions relating to the matter despite the pending appeal.
According to reports, the Court of Appeal maintained that once an appeal had been filed and relevant processes were before the court, all parties were expected to preserve the status quo pending the determination of the appeal.
The development has been welcomed by the affected political parties, particularly the ADC, which insists that it remains a legally recognized political party and will continue its political activities nationwide while pursuing its case through the courts.
Political observers say the ruling underscores the importance of judicial hierarchy and adherence to court orders in safeguarding Nigeria's democratic process.
The substantive appeal is expected to be determined in October, when the appellate court will finally decide on the legality of the deregistration order.
