The abduction of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife has taken a disturbing new turn.
Reports say the suspected bandit leader, Kachalla Muhammadu, has contacted the family, demanding the release of his detained men in security custody in exchange for the retired general and his wife.
During the conversation, the family was reportedly allowed to speak with the retired general, who confirmed that he and his wife were alive and in good condition.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified intelligence gathering and search-and-rescue operations, while the Katsina State Police Command has reportedly deployed additional personnel to the affected area.
This development raises fresh concern over insecurity in the country, where even a retired senior military officer is not safe from kidnapping.
