The gruesome killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, a Mathematics teacher abducted during a deadly bandit attack on a school community, has once again exposed the growing insecurity and failure of government to adequately protect lives and property in Nigeria.
The painful manner in which the innocent teacher was reportedly slaughtered by the attackers has left many Nigerians in shock and sorrow. His blood, no doubt, cries for justice, while many continue to ask what offence the late teacher committed that made him a target of such brutal wickedness.
Reports gathered revealed that about four suspected bandits riding on two motorcycles had earlier visited the school environment days before the attack without carrying weapons — an indication that they may have been on intelligence-gathering mission.
Sadly, a few days later, over twenty armed bandits riding on motorcycles stormed the area with AK-47 rifles and abducted several victims, forcing two persons onto each motorcycle. Eyewitnesses disclosed that two individuals who refused to comply were shot dead instantly.
Villagers reportedly identified the attackers as Fulani bandits, raising serious concerns over the growing security threats across the South-West region.
Many unanswered questions now surround the death of Mr. Oyedokun:
Did he attempt to alert security operatives?
Did he resist the attackers?
Did he speak against them?
Did he delay in obeying their instructions?
Why exactly was he singled out for such horrific treatment?
There are also increasing fears over the alleged collaboration of some local informants who may have helped the attackers navigate the terrain successfully.
This tragic incident has renewed calls for stronger local security architecture, including the empowerment of state policing, armed forest rangers, and improved support for Amotekun corps across the South-West.
Security experts insist that proactive intelligence gathering remains the key to preventing further attacks, especially after reports that the Ogun State Police Command recently dismantled a suspected bandits’ camp along the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road, where some suspects were arrested while others escaped into nearby forests.
The government must rise urgently to confront these security monsters before more innocent lives are wasted.
May the soul of Mr. Michael Oyedokun rest in peace. www.venointernational.com
