VENO tv: EDITORIAL Missing ?1.15 Trillion: Where Are EFCC and ICPC?
Date: 06-03-26

Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, representing Abia State in the National Assembly, recently blew the whistle on the alleged disappearance of ?1.15 trillion linked to the Ministry of Finance — a revelation that reportedly led to the redeployment of Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite.

According to Hon. Ikwechegh, the funds in question were approved by the National Assembly, sourced from international loans, and generated by government revenue agencies. Yet, the funds allegedly never reached the capital projects for which they were intended.

If this claim proves to be accurate, the legal implications are unavoidable. Such a development would point clearly to misappropriation of public funds, a serious crime under Nigerian law.
The redeployment of a minister from one office to another does not erase the troubling questions surrounding the alleged missing funds. Instead, it raises further concerns: Will there be a thorough investigation? Will anyone be held accountable?
This medium is keenly observing whether the nation’s anti-graft agencies — Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission — will beam their searchlight on the allegation, recover any missing funds, and bring perpetrators to justice.

Another question naturally arises:
Is the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu fighting corruption only among political opponents while turning a blind eye to allegations within its own ranks?
Time, as always, will tell. And the answers may speak loudly in the 2027 general elections.
As the saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine.
