Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Tehran remains ready for dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations, but will not accept talks conducted through threats or the use of force.
Speaking at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Pezeshkian said Iran would defend its independence while keeping the door open to a diplomatic settlement of its disputes with the United States and other countries.
The Iranian leader stressed that lasting peace in the Middle East could not be achieved through intimidation or military confrontation. He argued that countries in the region must pursue collective security, warning that instability affecting one nation could eventually affect others.
Pezeshkian also rejected pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme and maintained that disagreements should be resolved through negotiations rather than military action.
His address came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with diplomatic efforts continuing around the sidelines of the UN gathering. Iran has also indicated willingness to pursue negotiations provided Washington demonstrates what Tehran considers a genuine commitment to diplomacy.
“We are ready for dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations without accepting the language of force,” Pezeshkian told the assembly.
